Voicing Hand
Learning to navigate the notes enables access to a broader range of chord voicings by altering chord shapes they already know, and learning how to move certain voicings around the fretboard.
The greyed out note in this chord is an E, that is the 2nd fret on the D string. This E is not essential to the chord, as the chord shape features two other Es in the treble and bass on the open E strings. Lifting this finger lowers the note by two semitones to the open D string, transforming the E major chord into the dominant E7.
