Listening Framework - Pillar 2
Like improvisation, many of the differences between music cultures, some subtle and others overt, exist under a shroud of mystery. Following Levine’s (1995) approach to jazz improvisation, playing a range of different musics is achievable by deconstructing some of the key features.
Keeping all of these concepts in mind, we’ll compare and contrast as we listen to different musics to hear how they use the elements of music.
This program is predominantly practical. In the workshops, we’ll explore a range of LH & RH techniques on the guitar (reverse for left handed guitarists) to facilitate a range of the musical effects observed in the guided listening.

This concept informs the One-Tune-Medley in Pillar 4. The modular technical framework in Pillar 3 will give us the skills.
