The One-Tune-Medley (1TM) takes Davies’ (2001) thick-thin concept a step further to create a strategy for learning how to play with the music. The 1TM simulates the flexibility challenge commonly encountered in music therapy practice by:
taking an existing song,
thinning it down, that is, stripping back the stylistic features and then
rethickening it into a different musical style.
Initially, workshops focus on one musical style/technique at a time and then introduced predetermined transitions before working towards navigating spontaneous musical anomalies. Musical interactions increased in complexity as participants increased their capacity to follow and adapt their accompaniment.
Use the modular structure of the Technical Framework (Pillar 3) to modify playing in response to musical collaborator.
